Photographic Inspiration

The early morning sun in Hampi, a town in central India filled with
ancient Hindu temples and a rock strewn landscape.
What originally inspired me to capture photographs was a study abroad program I went on to India and the journey I took to Nepal. Some of the people and places I saw are just so incredibly beautiful, it would be a shame not to photograph them. Even though photographs can't possibly capture the full beauty of these places, they give a glimpse into this amazing area of the world and hopefully inspire others to discover it themselves. I realized this amazing power of photography when I was there and aimed to capture every possible scene that I could with my little point and shoot Canon. These few photographs are only a very small percentage of what I shot while abroad, but they are some of my favorites.

View of the Himalayas from Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal.
Trains are the best way to travel in India. This was shot while traveling in the early dawn on the way to the seaside town of Colva.

An old man begging at a tourist attraction in Mysore. Scenes like this make you painfully aware of India's widespread poverty.

  1. I would have never guessed that these were taken with a point and shoot. The picture on the train is so "trippy," for lack of better words. It is really interesting how you captured the train in the picture very clear and in focus and everything else has motion and really makes me feel like I am on this train with you. The rest of the pictures are also really inspiring and I wouldn't mind going there to see this myself in person. You did a wonderful job of capturing the beauty of this space.

  2. I agree with Alyssa, I'm so surprised these were taken with a point and shoot. You definitely captured some beautiful moments here.

  3. These are really cool pictures! The one of the Himalayas is my favorite. I like the colors and how you can tell how high up you are since the clouds are in front of the mountain.

  4. I love the first picture, all of them are awesome but that is by far my favorite. The way that the sun and slight fog seem to silhouette some of the mountains is amazing along with the light covering the rest of the picture. Really awesome that you chose to study abroad in India though, must have made for some wonderful photos. I'd really like the chance to go there one day as well.

  5. I like how you've shared with us different scenes from India from the countryside, the mountains, to the villages, all having their own distinct color palette. In the picture taken from the train, you were able to illustrate its movement and force through, seemingly, quiet countryside. Beautiful shots!
